Harare – India’s Vaibhav Suryavanshi etched his name into the record books on Sunday after becoming the youngest batter to score a century in ICC Under-19 World Cup history, producing a stunning hundred against England in the final at Harare Sports Club.

The 14-year-old southpaw reached his maiden U19 World Cup century in just 55 balls, delivering on the biggest stage after showing promise throughout the tournament without converting his starts into big scores.

Playing his first U19 World Cup, Suryavanshi rose to the occasion after India captain Ayush Mhatre elected to bat first in the summit clash, with the Boys in Blue chasing a record sixth U19 World Cup title.

Suryavanshi’s landmark innings broke the previous record held by Bangladesh’s Najmul Hossain Shanto, who had become the youngest centurion at the age of 15 years and 165 days. Suryavanshi achieved the feat at just 14 years and 316 days, underlining his status as one of the brightest young talents in world cricket.

Opening the batting, Suryavanshi set the tone early with his aggressive strokeplay, combining composure with fearless shot-making against England’s bowling attack. His knock not only anchored India’s innings but also provided vital momentum in a high-pressure final.

With this historic performance, Suryavanshi has announced himself on the global stage, giving Indian fans a glimpse of what could be a promising future at the highest level.
